The Business

London Campers is a small, independent, registered business run by us, Rob and Gem. We started it in 2009 to share with you a piece of the joy which VW camper vans, and specifically the T25 westfalia variant, the king in our eyes - have brought us.

Our aim is to provide affordable VW camper van hire, but to do so without asking you to compromise on quality.

To deliver on this pledge, we: 

• Give you the best vans at the lowest, and most transparent prices.
• Promise to match any quote for comparable camper hire.
• Offer unrivalled attention to detail: enjoyable camping is all about having the right kit so you will not find better specced, more comprehensively equipped, vans.
• Maintain our vans to the highest standard to make sure they are steadfastly reliable, but also offer full EU breakdown cover with replacement car and hotel, in the very unlikely event you do have problems.
• Deliver unrivalled customer service, or give your money back 

We are based in Streatham Hill, South London and Sevenoaks, Kent: thus in the heart of the capital and ideally located near to the port of Dover for trips to Europe. To make things even easier, we also deliver and collect within London Zones 1-3 and further afield (including all London's airports) by prior arrangement.

The People

We've both long been fanatics of classic cars in general and VW campers in particular. Rob has fond memories of childhood holidays spent in is parents orange bay window bus; Gem used to work for model maker Corgi.

We've owned a number of VW camper vans, all imported by us from Germany and they have taken us on many wonderful adventures together (see the example holiday pages for details!!).

Outside of VW campers and travelling, Rob also likes tinkering with classic hot hatches while Gem reads her book, passes the spanners or contemplates her next shopping purchase! We're also both keen snowboarders in winter.

Sadly London Campers isn't the kind of profit making machine which would enable us to quit the day jobs ' if only! So Rob is also a civil servant and Gem works for a restaurant chain. (They're both accommodating employers though, so we are always on hand to assist customers if need be!).

About the vans

We love all VW campers (and dream one day of adding bays and splitties to our collection), but for us, the T25 (in Germany they call it a T3) offers the perfect combination of classic VW looks and modern practicality. It's more spacious inside than any of its cousins, more reliable, refined and, crucially, faster than its predecessors (even newly made Brazilian bays only do 55mph, which on a long journey is a test for anyone's patience). But the T25 also retains some of that VW heritage which is lacking in the newer models.

All our vans were converted into campers by Westfalia, the only Volkswagen authorised conversion, meaning they left the factory as campers, rather than more compromised versions where someone cutting holes in panel van or minibus later.

As such, the westfalia conversion is second to none... the only one to have, in our view and that of most enthusiasts. For practicality and durability the westy conversion surpasses all others, just take a look on the about our vans page or come see one in person!
